Press release

This is the official press release by the institute regarding the whole issue, yesterday night(22nd of March)

Rohit Kumar, a third year student of IIT Kharagpur, was regularly visiting the institute hospital since the last three days on account of chronic headaches. On his way back to the hostel on the third day he fainted and fell off a cycle rickshaw and sustained serious injuries.

He was again rushed to the hospital, upon which it was decided that he should be taken to Kolkata. However, on the way, his situation deteriorated and he was instead taken to Midnapore, where he was unfortunately declared brought dead.

This incident triggered off strong emotive response from the students as they felt that the medical facilities were inadequate. The students immediately met the authorities and lodged their strong protest. The institute has expressed its condolences to Rohit's family and friends. The administration took note of the issues and met the student general body and assured them and laid out a plan in which they would work together with the students towards improving on campus medical facilities.

Although the press release had many omissions, like the resignations of the Director and the DOSA, and the three-hour delay in issuing of the ambulance; it should be understood by the student community that not everything should be disclosed to the media, as this will only add negative impacts to the whole episode.

Clearly, the institute did not mention the gory details about the vandalizing of the Director's bungalow and car. We would also like to state that this release was only the proposed one and could have been modified later.

Jis kisi mahaan insaan ne ye lines likhe hain, mein unse request karta hoon ki wo aaj (24th March) ke TOI ka 3rd page dekh lein, unke saare confusions door ho jaayenge.

Aur koi bhi logical insaan students ke reaction ko ghalat nahi maan sakta hai. (more than 90% alumni bhi is baat se agree karte hain ki it was obvious). Kuchh ghalat hua, lekin usko roka nahi jaa sakta tha. Ya to kuchh bhi nahi hota, jaisa ki aaj tak hota aaya hai, ya phir itna hona hi tha. So ONLY ADMINISTRATION IS RESPONSIBLE.

  4. @manish... the figure of 90% u r quoting is dubious... no logic behind it... rokne ko bahut kuch roka ja sakta tha but point is ki jo log wo kar rahe the they didn't hv concerns for rohit (evidently many of them were even unaware of rohit's name)... unhe farak nhi padta tha... no mentioning about the things done by those freaks... rahi baat adminsitration ki to wo certainly kafi hadd tak responsible hai... but humne bhi hadd PAAR ki.. and us vanadalism ko quote karne se donon hi community ka naam khraab hota .. adminstration ka and KGP junta ka... so it was good tht newspapers omitted many things..

  6. jo hua wo galata aur may be sahmeful tha lekin jo hua ****it was necessary**** kyunki pichle dono open houses mein bhi janta gayi thi lekin un open houses ke proposals likhe aur thande baste mein dale gaye kyunki insti ko laga ki students kuchkar nahi sakte aur kar sakte hain to illu band karne jaise kam jisme unka nuksan ho ,,, administration ko jhanjodne ki jaroorat thi ,,, administration hitler giri kar raha tha,,,

lekin ab studnet community ko ye bhi samhajna padega ki administration ko wo respect wapas dena bhi jaroori hain nahi to hamara college bhi kisi local college ki tarah ho jayga log choti moti faltoo baton ko le ke ye sab karenge isliye jo hua wo galat hote hue bhi sahi aur sabse important jaroori tha

  8. This is one what was informed to the media at the press conference.

"A piece of land located just outside the campus will be handed over to a private medical group to set up a super specialty hospital. He(DD) also promised a 24X7 pharmacy and a modern diagnostic center soon."

I was present along with some of my friends to attend the press release at the board room. But inspite of all our efforts, no students presence was allowed.

  9. I am 2005 patel batch.

I see them slowly begin to start nibling at the corner of brains and we all slowly starting to forget it.

The student body should release their official press statement and ask questions: Does the administration agree that care is not taken in case of seriously ill students.

I have seen so many, so many people being mistreated, given bad medicine, and most of all, not referred to better facilities till they reach the stage where absence of petrol in ambulance causes the difference between life and death.

This seems ridiculous. How some people can choose to be politically correct in such matters is beyond my understanding.

  10. @Abi P aka lodu prasad aka gcg....
aapne likha hai, "rokne ko bahut kuch roka ja sakta tha". Ye mujhe pata hai. Aur in fact bahut kuchh roka gaya, nahi to junta Diro ko maarne ke taiyaar thi. Diro ko bachaane mein mujhe maar khana pada. Isliye jitna possible hua, logon ne roka.

Personally mujhe bhi tod-phod dekh kar aur Diro ke ghar mein ghus kar saamaan todna bahut hi bura aur CHEAP laga. Lekin jaisa maine kaha, "Ya to kuchh bhi nahi hota, jaisa ki aaj tak hota aaya hai, ya phir itna hona hi tha". Iska matlab hi yahi tha ki aisa kuchh tabhi hota jab itni junta aati (kam junta hoti to kisi ki himmat nahi hoti Diro ke saamne jaake chillane ki) aur jab bhi itni junta aayegi to usmein aise CHEAP log bhi honge hi jinko is baat se matlab nahi tha ki wo kis kaam ke liye aaye hain, unhein bas masti karni thi.

  11. aur jahaan tak "90%" figure ki baat hai, aap kisi bhi community par (Awaaz, Schols Av or any other blog) alumni ke reactions dekh sakte hain. shaayad 90% se jyada hi honge. (main bas figure ke sahi hone ki baat kar raha hoon.)
